hMAP Certfied™
A third-party heavy-metal transparency standard based on Prop 65 exposure limits and expanded contaminant testing.
What hMAP Certified™ Means
Apply for Certification-
Independent Lab Testing
Products are tested by ISO-accredited third-party laboratories using validated methods such as ICP-MS.
-
Prop 65 Anchored Limits
Exposure is evaluated per maximum daily serving against California Prop 65 safe-harbor levels.
-
Traceable & Auditable
Lot-specific COAs are required, documented, and subject to renewal and compliance review.
Metals & Exposure Limits
All exposure limits are calculated per maximum labeled daily serving. Products must meet Prop 65 safe-harbor limits where established, and hMAP-defined limits for additional metals.
Mercury (Hg)
Limit: ≤ 2.0 µg per day
Basis: hMAP standard
Reported per maximum daily serving.
Lead (Pb)
Limit: ≤ 0.5 µg per day
Basis: California Prop 65 MADL
Exposure is calculated based on the maximum labeled daily serving.
Cadmium (Cd)
Limit: ≤ 4.1 µg per day
Basis: California Prop 65 MADL
Evaluated per maximum daily serving.
Arsenic (As)
Limit: ≤ 10 µg per day
Basis: California Prop 65 NSRL
Speciation required to determine inorganic arsenic content.
Methylmercury (MeHg)
Limit: ≤ 1.0 µg per day
Basis: hMAP standard
Speciation required for all products.
Inorganic Tin (Sn)
Limit: ≤ 50 µg per day
Basis: hMAP standard
Must also meet applicable EU maximum levels where relevant.
Nickel (Ni)
Limit: ≤ 25 µg per day
Basis: hMAP standard
Evaluated per maximum daily serving.
hMAP Certified™ – Kids Safe
The Kids Safe designation applies stricter exposure thresholds based on child bodyweight assumptions and pediatric consumption patterns.
Products carrying the Kids Safe mark meet all hMAP Certified requirements and pass enhanced limits designed for higher-sensitivity populations.
hMAP Certified Kids Safe™ Limits
Kids Safe Exposure Limits
• Lead: ≤ 0.25 µg/day
• Cadmium: ≤ 2.0 µg/day
• Inorganic Arsenic: ≤ 5 µg/day
• Total Mercury: ≤ 1.0 µg/day
• Methylmercury: ≤ 0.5 µg/day
• Nickel: ≤ 10 µg/day
• Inorganic Tin: ≤ 25 µg/day
Certification Process
-
Submit Testing Data
Provide third-party ISO-accredited laboratory results for the required hMAP metals panel based on maximum daily serving.
-
Standards Evaluation
Results are reviewed against Prop 65 safe-harbor levels and hMAP-defined limits. Speciation requirements are verified.
-
Certification & Renewal
Approved products receive the hMAP Certified mark and are subject to annual renewal and compliance review.
Founding Partner Program
hMAP is onboarding a limited number of early certification partners to help shape the heavy metal transparency standard. Founding Partners receive priority review, early logo usage, and inclusion in the initial public Certified directory.
