The journey — from family experience to industry leadership — that led to the creation of HMAP.

Timothy Mount is the founder of the Heavy Metals Awareness Project (HMAP), an initiative dedicated to advancing heavy metal transparency, consumer education, and measurable accountability in natural products. He currently serves as CEO and lead formulator of VitaSweets, a premium functional supplement company built on science-driven innovation and responsible formulation.
Previously, Timothy co-founded Winged Wellness, recipient of the 2024 NBJ Emerging Brand of the Year award from Nutrition Business Journal — one of the natural products industry’s highest honors. He is a five-time NEXTY Award nominee and four-time NEXTY Award winner, recognized at Expo West by New Hope Network and Informa for excellence and innovation in supplement formulation. Over the past decade, he has been widely regarded as a leading educator in collagen supplementation and consumer transparency within the natural health space.
But HMAP was not born from professional recognition.
It was born from personal experience.
Timothy’s mother was a dental hygienist who experienced long-term occupational mercury exposure from drilling amalgam fillings, in addition to carrying 18 metal fillings herself. The chronic exposure contributed to a cancer diagnosis early in Timothy’s life.
At 27 years old, Timothy made the decision to fund the safe removal of her mercury fillings and support her through a comprehensive recovery protocol — prioritizing elimination of exposure first, followed by nutritional rebuilding, herbal medicine, detoxification strategies, and conventional oncology care. The intervention extended her life by more than three decades — long enough to meet her granddaughter and live well beyond initial expectations.
He later underwent safe amalgam removal himself.
That experience permanently shaped his philosophy: exposure matters, measurement matters, and elimination of risk is foundational to health.
Outside of his work in the natural products industry, Timothy brings decades of discipline and competitive experience to his leadership.
He is a national-level Men’s Physique competitor, placing 4th at NPC Masters Nationals in 2024. He is also a second-degree black belt in judo, a former California State Champion, and a medalist at the Pan American Games. A certified Level 2 coach through the United States Judo Association (USJA), he founded and served as head coach of Aztec Judo at San Diego State University and has coached and trained alongside elite competitors in both judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, including at internationally recognized academies.
For Timothy, discipline is not aesthetic — it is structural. The same standards that govern athletic performance govern formulation, exposure management, and public health accountability.
HMAP operates on two pillars:
• Consumer Education — empowering individuals with science-based information about heavy metal exposure and practical strategies to reduce personal risk
• Certification Standards — establishing measurable heavy metal accountability through independent third-party testing and defined exposure thresholds
Timothy believes heavy metal toxicity remains one of the most under-discussed variables in modern consumer products. In a market where “clean” is often a marketing claim, HMAP exists to define and enforce measurable standards.
